The French defender tore his muscle on his thigh after a brilliant performance in the Champions League against FC Barcelona. Lucas Hernandez was set to miss four to six weeks in the process, but a recent report has emerged and gives no positive news.

Hernandez has missed almost four weeks since his injury against Barcelona. According to SPORT1, the recovery process of the Frenchman is going slower than expected and it is giving Bayern Munich warning signs.

The German TV station reports that Hernandez will not be available in October, despite the previous news indicating that the center back would be available again at the end of October. What is worse, is that Hernandez might be at risk of missing the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Even though Bayern and Hernandez are optimistic, the worry has grown greatly, mainly due to the slow recovery process of the Frenchman which also grows fear of whether it’d be enough by the time the tournament starts. In a while, Didier Deschamps, the national team coach of France, will have to decide on the final squad.

Neither of the parties, including Julian Nagelsmann, wants to give an exact date for the comeback of Hernandez. „It will take a while for Luci, the X-Ray tests were not that positive“, said the 35 years old coach.

So far, Bayern have been able to compensate well for the Frenchman’s absence. Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano have both put in very strong performances of late and form a solid center-back duo. Upamecano could have a high chance of joining the final squad of France in the World cup. According to Nagelsmann, the 23-year-old absolutely deserves a nomination: „For me, he is currently the most stable French central defender.“
