Convincing start in the German cup competition as Bayern Munich defeats Viktoria Köln away 0-5.

Following the draw in the Bundesliga against Borussia Mönchengladbach a few days ago, Bayern came back to their winning ways by winning against Viktoria Köln 0-5 away and qualifying for the second round of DFB Pokal.

Julian Nagelsmann made a lot of changes in the starting XI tonight by starting Ryan Gravenberch, Mathys Tel, Sven Ulreich, Noussair Mazraoui, Josip Stanisic, and Matthijs de Ligt right from the start. Only Lucas Hernandez, Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Müller and Sadio Mané were in the starting eleven again.

Bayern Munich started the match with a lot of chances but were unable to convert them due to Viktoria’s goalkeeper Ben Voll, who saved his team on several occasions when the likes of Gravenberch, Mane, or Tel came close to scoring.

Gravenberch and Tel were Bayern’s best players in the first 45 minutes, who were absolutely tearing the opposition defense apart. Despite a few nightmares from Yann Sommer, Gravenberch and Tel made sure that their goalkeeper would not have a masterclass, by scoring in 36th and 45th minute respectively, ending a solid first half from the Bavarians and scoring their first goal on Bayern shirt.

The second half started with a steadier rhythm, with a few minutes on, Sadio Mane made it 0-3 in the 53rd minute, a goal which thankfully was not disallowed for offside this time. The goal was created by a great long ball from Joshua Kimmich to Serge Gnabry, who assisted Mane in the process.

Julian Nagelsmann brought fresh players by bringing Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane on the pitch when less than 30 minutes were to be played. In the 67th minute, Jamal Musiala scored Bayern’s 4th goal 7 minutes after he came on.

In the meantime, Leon Goretzka and Eric Maxim Choupo Moting all celebrated their comebacks tonight. While Choupo Moting was quite unlucky on a few occasions in front of goal, Goretzka found the back of the net quickly after a nice solo run.

Bayern’s next game will once again be away from home in Berlin, where they will be hosted by Union Berlin on Saturday.
