Is the Konrad Laimer transfer slowly collapsing? According to recent reports, the Austrian is now tipped to stay with the Saxons in the summer.

The transfer rumors around Konrad Laimer have cooled down significantly in the past few days. Even though Oliver Kahn recently confirmed that Bayern wants to sign the midfielder in the summer, the 52-year-old was also very reluctant about it: „There’s not much to say at the moment. Let’s wait and see what else happens,“ he said in an interview with „Sat.1.“

Another problem that appears is the transfer fee of the player. RB Leipzig insist on demanding 30 million euro for the player. In addition, RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff hinted that the Saxons are quite willing to keep Laimer for another season and let him go on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.

According to Leipzig’s insider, Guido Schäfer from the „Leipziger Volkszeitung“ Laimer will most likely stay with RB Leipzig this summer. The reasons are obvious: According to Schäfer, RB needs the midfielder more than Bayern. According to the 57-year-old, the financial side of the transfer is also a problem for Bayern, also because the midfield depth is currently well staffed and Marcel Sabitzer and Ryan Gravenberch have shown quite strong performances

German tabloid „BILD“ also reports that Laimer will not leave Saxony in the summer as an agreement between the two clubs is considered very unlikely. A decision has not been made yet, but the current tendency is that Laimer is in Leipzig’s plans for this summer. However, a move for the Austrian next year on a free transfer is a likelier option.

On the other hand, it’s also been reported that the rumor about Konrad Laimer has sparked debate within Bayern’s dressing room. According to SPORT BILD, Bayern players see no reason for another additional midfielder following the performances of Marcel Sabitzer and Ryan Gravenberch on the pitch and in training sessions.

What is a funny coincidence, however, is that the rumors concerning a Laimer move to Munich cooled down as soon as the rumors of Frenkie de Jong to Bayern started to grow. Of course, that is just a coincidence, but it would be quite a fitting end to this major transfer window. It was talked about that Bayern can imagine de Jong on loan, but that’s just rumors. It will be exciting how things will go until the end of August, as Bayern still plans for more departures and perhaps more newcomers.
