Due to Leon Goretzka’s knee injury, Julian Nagelsmann has to reorganize his midfield right at the start of the season. With Marcel Sabitzer and Ryan Gravenberch, the Bayern coach has two alternatives. The new signing definitely wants to take the opportunity to prove himself

Even though the two newcomers Sadio Mané and Matthijs de Ligt have recently been in the (media) focus at Bayern, Ryan Gravenberch has secretly become the winner of the summer preparation. Together with Marcel Sabitzer, the young Dutchman made a strong impression in the training sessions and in the two friendlies. Julian Nagelsmann and his teammates are also enthusiastic about the 20-year-old.

Gravenberch himself draws a positive outcome after the first few weeks with the German record champions: „I’m doing really well here. Everything is new: the employees, new players, new coaches. But it feels great. I’m slowly getting used to the intensity of training and the general conditions here,“ he said in an interview with „kicker“.

Even though the competition in midfield will become undoubtedly fierce, Gravenberch is confident about the new season: „My goal is to be part of the starting eleven as soon as possible. If I can do that, it will be easier to make the leap into the national team.”

The midfield leader Leon Goretzka will be missing six to eight weeks due to a knee injury that had to be treated with a surgery. The Dutch youngster will most likely get more playing time than originally planned at the start of the season. Gravenberch wants to make the best possible use of this unexpected opportunity: „I feel sorry for him [Goretzka]. But now it’s a way to prove myself to the coach.“
