With Paul Wanner, Arijon Ibrahimovic and Mathys Tel, three 17-year-olds are currently playing for the professional team at FC Bayern. Now, the record-breaking club is said to be eyeing another 17-year-old talent: Belgian Joseph Boende.
Boende is currently under contract with Juventus FC, currently tenth in the Italian table, where he plays for the U19 team. He is also a Belgian U-18 international. He took his first steps in the youth department of RSC Anderlecht before moving to northern Italy in the summer of 2021. The „Old Lady“ transferred 200,000€ to Anderlecht at the time.
Brilliant performance despite being sent off
On Wednesday night, Boende was on the pitch in the intermediate round of the Uefa Youth League when Juventus hosted KRC Genk. The Italians narrowly lost the game 4-3 and Boende himself was sent off with a red card after just over an hour. Nevertheless, the defensive midfielder is said to have caught the eye of some scouts in the stands.
Belgian sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that representatives of FC Bayern, among others, contacted the player after the game. There is said to be competition from AS Monaco and Bundesliga rivals Eintracht Frankfurt. Should FC Bayern make an offer, however, Juve side would have the upper hand. The 1.84 tall teenager’s contract runs until 2024 and Juventus are said to be interested in extending it.
Bayern and Juve like to do business
In negotiations, Bayern could benefit from the fact that there have been frequent points of contact with Juventus in the past and that both sides therefore know each other well.
Players such as Arturo Vidal, Mehdi Benatia and Douglas Costa played for both clubs. In some cases, players were also bought or sold for high sums in the millions. Kingsley Coman initially came to Munich on loan from Juve and was later signed permanently. The most recent transfer between the two teams was that of Matthijs de Ligt, whom Munich signed in July 2022 for a whopping €67 million.
