Matthias Ginter had been linked with a summer transfer to Bayern Munich over the recent months, the news seemed to have cooled down, which led to believe that the club had finally decided to go against his signing.
„Sport BILD“ now reports, that the 28-year-old is about to sign with his former club SC Freiburg. Ginter is available on a free transfer in the summer and is set to succeed Nico Schlotterbeck, who has now been announced as Borussia Dortmund’s newest signing on the defense after Niklas Süle.
Ginter was only seen as an emergency solution in Munich
After Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rüdiger, Bayern seem to be left empty-handed with another central defender. Though, Matthias Ginter was never considered an emergency solution in the first place, as there were reportedly too many voices against his signing. Nico Schlotterbeck on the other hand was deemed too expensive.
Besides, there were never concrete negotiations or discussions between the club and both the defenders.
