Borussia Dortmund leads the Bundesliga and has been extremely consistent so far. Vincent Kompany is by no means surprised by this.
Borussia Dortmund has gotten off to a strong start in the new Bundesliga season and currently sits at the top of the standings. At FC Bayern, they’re certainly aware of their rival’s progress, but they clearly aren’t letting it throw them off course.
Ahead of the away game at FC Augsburg, Vincent Kompany was asked about BVB. The Bayern coach made it clear that Dortmund’s stability so far does not surprise him.
“I’m not surprised that they’re so consistent. Our focus is always narrow, always on the next game. Leverkusen racked up 90 points a few years ago—that came out of nowhere, too. It’s possible. We just want to win every game; that’s the priority,” said the Belgian.
Kompany doesn’t want to fixate on Dortmund
Kompany is thus deliberately avoiding a major debate about the current league leader. For the Belgian, the focus is less on the performance of their direct rival and more on their own performance.
His reference to Bayer Leverkusen also shows that Kompany believes even unusually strong seasons by a rival are possible in the Bundesliga. Accordingly, he wants to avoid getting caught up in any projections or league standings too early.
(function(){
var iframe=document.getElementById(‚polls-fcbinside‘);
if(!iframe)return;
window.addEventListener(‚message‘,function(e){
if(e.source!==iframe.contentWindow)return;
var d=e.data||{};
if(d.type===’FOOTY_WIDGET_HEIGHT’&&typeof d.height===’number‘){iframe.style.height=d.height+’px‘;}
});
})();
At FC Bayern, however, the familiar principle still applies: take it one game at a time and pick up points as consistently as possible. Especially this early in the season, Kompany clearly doesn’t want to waste energy worrying too much about Dortmund.
However, with its performance so far, BVB has positioned itself early on as a serious contender in the title race.
For Munich, though, this doesn’t change their game plan. The focus is first on Augsburg—and then on whoever comes next.
