Michael Olise is one of the hottest names in the Ballon d’Or race. However, Marcel Reif sees a potential drawback for the Bayern star—though it’s not of a sporting nature.
Michael Olise is currently making headlines almost every week. The 24-year-old is shining at FC Bayern and on the French national team with goals, assists, and spectacular plays. Consequently, his name regularly comes up in the race for the Ballon d’Or.
Bayern legend Thomas Müller recently explicitly included the Frenchman among his favorites. Marcel Reif also sees Olise on his way to the very top—with a tongue-in-cheek remark.
“Olise is still coming. Nothing will get past Olise. Unless, of course, interviews are also taken into account. Then he’ll have a problem,” Reif said on the BILD show “Reif ist Live.”
Olise’s reserved nature remains a topic of discussion
The background to this is Olise’s demeanor off the field. The offensive star is considered reserved, often gives very brief answers, and comes across as more reserved at public events than he does on the field.
On the field, there’s hardly any doubt. According to Sport BILD, Olise has already tallied eight goals and four assists in seven competitive matches for Bayern.

var d=e.data||{};
if(d.type===’FOOTY_WIDGET_HEIGHT’&&typeof d.height===’number‘){iframe.style.height=d.height+’px‘;}
});
})();
France’s national team coach, Zinédine Zidane, recently defended Olise’s demeanor. “Off the field, he’s a bit reserved and shy, but that doesn’t matter, because on the field he’s not shy at all—his style of play makes him a natural leader,” Zidane explained.
Thierry Henry also recently emphasized that Olise isn’t taciturn on purpose. For Bayern, what matters most is what the Frenchman shows on the field—and there, he performs at a world-class level.
Whether Olise will finish at the top of the Ballon d’Or rankings this year remains to be seen. After all, there isn’t a prize for the most detailed player interview.
