The next transfer discussion at FC Bayern may be on the horizon as early as this winter. Although the Munich club bolstered its offense in the summer with Ismael Saibari, a prominent name is now being linked to the German record champions: Dani Olmo.
As reported by Sky Sports, Bayern could be looking to sign the Spanish international this winter. Olmo is under contract with FC Barcelona, though he is not currently a regular starter there.
According to the report, there have been no concrete negotiations between the clubs or an offer from Bayern so far. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be the first time the former Leipzig player has been the subject of speculation in Munich.
Olmo as a backup for Musiala and Olise?
What’s particularly interesting is the reasoning behind Bayern’s alleged interest. According to the report, the Munich club is also considering Olmo because Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala are regularly linked with top international clubs.
With Olmo, Bayern could broaden their offensive options early on and protect themselves against the possible future departure of one of their top stars. However, it is not known whether Musiala or Olise are actually on the verge of leaving at this time.
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen recently dismissed such speculation, particularly regarding Olise. The Frenchman is under contract through 2029. Musiala is also a key player in Munich’s long-term plans.
An Olmo transfer would therefore not necessarily be seen as a direct replacement for either of the two stars. The Spaniard can play in several offensive positions and knows the Bundesliga very well from his time at RB Leipzig.
Eberl knows Olmo from Leipzig
Max Eberl could be a decisive factor. The Bayern sporting director and Olmo know each other from their time together at RB Leipzig. Munich has also been linked to the attacking player on several occasions in the past.
Financially, however, a transfer would be a major challenge. Barcelona paid around 60 million euros for Olmo in 2024. Given his long-term contract, Bayern would likely have to dig deep into their pockets once again to sign him.
On top of that, it remains completely unclear whether Barcelona would even be willing to let the 28-year-old go and whether Olmo himself would be interested in returning to the Bundesliga.
As a result, the matter is still in its early stages. It’s obvious that Olmo could, in principle, fit Bayern’s profile given his quality and Bundesliga experience. Whether this renewed interest will actually lead to a winter transfer, however, remains entirely up in the air at this point.
