Jan-Christian Dreesen had to cancel FC Bayern’s trip to Asia at the last minute. Regardless, club officials have apparently made a clear decision regarding the future of the CEO.
While President Herbert Hainer and sporting director Max Eberl accompanied FC Bayern on the Audi Summer Tour to South Korea and Hong Kong, one prominent name was missing from the leadership team: Jan-Christian Dreesen. The CEO was unable to make the trip due to a broken rib.
However, this does not change the long-term plans involving the 58-year-old. According to information from Sport BILD, FC Bayern intends to continue its collaboration with Dreesen beyond the end of his current contract. The Presidential Committee has reportedly already voted in favor of an extension.
This signals that the next major personnel decision at the executive level is on the horizon for the Munich club. Not only is Eberl expected to be tied to the club long-term, but the club’s leadership also intends to continue working with Dreesen.
Talks with Dreesen are set to begin now
Unlike with Eberl, however, Hainer was not yet able to personally discuss future plans with Dreesen during the trip to Asia. The CEO had to cancel the trip to South Korea and Hong Kong on medical advice due to a broken rib.
For this reason, concrete talks with Dreesen are not expected to begin until after Bayern’s leadership returns to Munich. Hainer will then be able to inform the chairman of the executive board of the plans on behalf of the presidential committee and move the negotiations forward. According to information from Sport BILD, the term of a new contract has not yet been determined.
Also noteworthy is the development within Bayern’s leadership. According to the report, the supervisory board viewed the recent improvement in the working relationship between Dreesen and Eberl positively. One reason for this is said to be that the sporting director is now acting more transparently toward the CEO.

This closer coordination was evident, for example, in the transfer of Ismael Saibari. When signing the attacking player from PSV Eindhoven, Eberl and Dreesen jointly led the negotiations with the Dutch club. FC Bayern invested around 55 million euros for the 25-year-old.
Personnel decisions at the executive level are thus taking on increasingly concrete forms. While Hainer had already informed Eberl during the Asian tour that the Executive Committee had given the green light for a contract extension, the next major contract—with Dreesen—is now set to be addressed.
