For years, Alphonso Davies was considered untouchable at FC Bayern. But following recent developments, the Munich club’s stance appears to have shifted. As Sky reports, the record champions would be open to discussions if an exceptional offer were made for the Canadian.
As recently as February 2025, Davies signed a long-term contract extension in Munich through 2030. Despite signing the deal, however, the left back appears to have lost his former special status. According to Sky, the 25-year-old, along with Hiroki Ito, is among the few players whom Bayern would not categorically rule out selling.
However, this would require an exceptionally high offer.
Brown’s transfer changes the situation
A major reason for the changed situation is likely the signing of Nathaniel Brown. The German national team player joined Bayern this summer for a base transfer fee of 50 million euros and is considered a long-term solution for the left side of the defense.
Added to this is the fact that Davies has been repeatedly sidelined by injuries over the past year and a half. Even at the World Cup, the Canadian was only able to make a brief appearance for host nation Canada due to physical problems. According to information from Sky, Bayern’s management’s confidence in his long-term fitness is said to have suffered as a result.
Should Davies indeed leave the club, Munich already has several alternatives. In addition to Brown, Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić can also step in at left back. Furthermore, Hiroki Ito would be another option, provided the Japanese player does not also leave the club.
A departure remains unlikely
Despite a general willingness to negotiate, there is currently little to suggest the Canadian will leave. Given his long-term contract, Bayern would demand a correspondingly high transfer fee. It seems questionable whether any club would be willing to pay that amount at this time.
After Davies had been heavily linked with Real Madrid prior to his contract extension, things have recently quieted down significantly regarding his future. No concrete suitors are currently known.
Regardless, according to Sky, FC Bayern’s focus remains on players leaving the club. João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza are expected to leave the club this summer if possible. Armindo Sieb is also on the list of players to be sold. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß is said to have made it clear internally that generating additional revenue is the top priority.
