While many FC Bayern pros are currently competing for the title at the 2026 World Cup, Vincent Kompany is using the short summer break to take a break from soccer. The Bayern coach was recently spotted at an extraordinary sporting event in Austria.
The soccer world is currently focused on North America, where the 2026 World Cup is in full swing. Numerous FC Bayern players are also on the field representing their national teams and fighting to advance to the knockout stage.
Vincent Kompany is certainly following the tournament closely. At the same time, the Bayern coach seems to be taking the opportunity to recharge his batteries before the intense phase of preseason training.
The 40-year-old is currently spending a few days off with his family in Pinzgau, Austria.
Kompany attends Mountain Bike World Cup
However, the Belgian wasn’t drawn to a soccer field, but rather to one of the most spectacular events in international mountain biking.
As reported by the Pinzgau Aktuell portal, Kompany attended the Mountain Bike World Cup in Leogang with his two sons. There, the Bayern coach watched the races on one of the world’s most famous downhill courses.
The region has long been considered a mecca for mountain bike fans and regularly hosts major international competitions.
Interestingly, the visit apparently wasn’t entirely coincidental. According to the report, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund is said to have recommended the event to his coach. Freund himself is from Salzburg and knows the region very well.
He is also said to have helped organize the trip on site.
Kompany is already familiar with the course

It is particularly noteworthy that this is not Kompany’s first encounter with mountain biking. The Bayern coach revealed on site that he had even ridden the famous Leogang downhill course himself.
Anyone familiar with the course knows just how demanding this challenge is. Steep sections, high speeds, and technically difficult stretches make the course a true test of courage.
The fact that Kompany gave it a try fits his character perfectly. Both as a player and now as a coach, the Belgian is known as someone who loves to take on challenges.
Bayern’s daily routine will soon resume
However, Kompany’s brief break is likely to end soon. While Bayern officials are currently working intensively on the transfers of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, planning for the new season is already underway behind the scenes.
After winning the league title, the DFB Cup, and the Super Cup last season, expectations at Säbener Straße are once again sky-high. Kompany will therefore be fully immersed in preseason preparations again in just a few weeks. Training is set to resume at Säbener Straße on July 20.
Until then, the Belgian seems to be consciously enjoying his rare days off with his family—and taking inspiration from other sports in the process.
