FC Bayern have lost the transfer poker for Anthony Gordon – much to the surprise of Thomas Müller, who cannot understand why the England international decided against Munich in favor of FC Barcelona
In recent weeks, Anthony Gordon was regarded as FC Bayern’s absolute dream player, with sporting director Max Eberl even publicly confirming Munich’s interest. In the end, however, the 25-year-old opted for a move to FC Barcelona
The Catalans reached an agreement with Newcastle United for a transfer fee of around 70 million euros plus possible bonus payments of a further ten million euros
Thomas Müller in particular was surprised by this decision
Müller would have opted for Bayern
In the BILD podcast Bayern Insider, the ex-Bayern star spoke openly about the failed transfer and made it clear that he couldn’t really understand Gordon’s decision. „If Barcelona and Bayern come, what was the deciding factor for Gordon not coming to Munich?“ asked Müller
Particularly interesting: Müller also brought Hansi Flick into play, who now coaches FC Barcelona and is likely to have played an important role in the transfer. „I know Hansi Flick very well, of course. It’s a lot of fun playing under him, both in terms of his leadership and his style of play,“ explained the 36-year-old

Nevertheless, Müller then made it clear what his own decision would have been: „But I would go to FC Bayern.“
For FC Bayern, the failed Gordon transfer is a serious setback in the summer transfer window
Internally, the England international was seen as an absolute ideal solution for the attack, as his dynamism, flexibility and intensity in particular would have fitted perfectly into Munich’s requirements profile
In the end, however, the record champions apparently deliberately withdrew from the financial arms race after Barcelona improved their offer once again
Flick apparently the decisive factor
The fact that Gordon opted for Barcelona in the end may also have something to do with Hansi Flick
The former Bayern coach enjoys an excellent reputation among many players and is considered an attractive coach, especially for attacking players. Added to this is the sporting perspective at the Spanish champions
For Munich, this means that the search for offensive reinforcements continues, with several alternatives already being discussed internally.
