Shortly before FC Bayern’s Bundesliga match against 1. FC Heidenheim, a dangerous incident occurred at the Allianz Arena. A smouldering fire in a technical room triggered a fire alarm around two hours before kick-off – and led to the fire department being called out
The alarm went off as the first spectators were already streaming into the stadium, as reported by the Abendzeitung München newspaper. Admission had begun around ten minutes earlier. When the emergency services reached the affected technical room, the fire was already clearly perceptible – charred cables caused a strong smell
Using heavy breathing protection, the firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control. The fire was extinguished using a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher and the affected area was then disconnected from the power supply as a precaution
No danger for spectators
Despite the dicey situation, there was no danger to spectators at any time. The fire department confirmed that the situation was quickly stabilized and there was no impact on safety in the stadium
The match between FC Bayern and Heidenheim was able to go ahead as planned – in the end, the two teams drew spectacularly 3-3
Cause still unclear
It is not yet known why the fire started in the first place, nor is there any information on the exact extent of the damage
What is clear, however, is that without the rapid intervention of the fire department, the incident could have developed much more dramatically.
