Talks regarding Harry Kane’s contract extension with FC Bayern are underway. An agreement between the top English striker and the German record champions is still considered likely. However, there is reportedly still one major sticking point in the negotiations.
Harry Kane is expected to extend his contract with FC Bayern. As recently reported, an extension seemed imminent. Bayern insider Christian Falk said recently that the negotiations would “not be particularly protracted.”
Kane, whose contract expires in 2027, commented a few days ago: “There’s no news yet. I only have one year left on my contract, so now is the time to talk about it. We’ll discuss it next week or the week after. Both sides are very relaxed.”
So while everything had recently pointed toward a smooth and quick extension of their partnership, the AZ now reports that there is still one crucial sticking point in the negotiations: the term of the new contract.
Bayern is offering a contract through 2029
According to the report, FC Bayern would like to keep Kane for two more years and has offered the 32-year-old a new contract through 2029. This would extend the Englishman’s current contract accordingly.
Kane himself, however, is said to have a different idea in mind. According to the report, the striker prefers a three-year contract through 2030. The parties therefore still need to discuss the matter further.
According to the AZ, a compromise involving a two-year extension with an option for a third year is not an option for the Bayern bosses.
An agreement remains likely
In principle, however, both sides seem to want to continue working together. Kane has spoken positively about his future in Munich on several occasions in recent months, and the officials at the record champions are also determined to keep the captain of the English national team.
Despite the existing sticking point, the talks are not expected to break down. Rather, it is reportedly an issue that needs to be resolved in further negotiations. An agreement between Kane and Bayern is therefore still considered very likely.
