FC Bayern are already looking ahead to the summer transfer window, but not every name has met with approval. Lothar Matthäus has now taken a clear stance on Yan Diomande. The record international currently sees no pressure to act on the wing in Munich.
In the background, planning at Säbener Straße has long been in full swing, even though the winter window has been closed since the beginning of February. After the 5:1 victory in the top match against Hoffenheim and the 3:0 away win in Bremen, the current squad is stable at national level and the starting position is also comfortable internationally. For Lothar Matthäus, however, one thing is certain: „It won’t work without transfers“.
In SPORT BILD, the 64-year-old took a closer look at the team and also commented on the offensive line-up. „With Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, Lennart Karl and now Serge Gnabry, who has extended his contract, you actually have enough players for the offensive positions,“ Matthäus emphasized. With Luis Díaz in particular, he sees no urgent need for a top-class new signing.
The Sky expert is particularly clear about Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig. „Leipzig are only said to be willing to talk to Diomande for €100 million or more. That’s too expensive for a player who can’t get past Díaz for the time being. Bayern can save themselves the money,“ says Matthäus.
This is what Matthäus thinks about El Mala

He also suggests a different path for Cologne talent Saïd El Mala: „I wouldn’t advise him to go to Bayern just yet. He can’t get past Díaz at the moment. El Mala needs match practice at his age. If he wants to take the next step, he should rather follow the call of a Premier League club that isn’t one of the top clubs. There is said to be interest in him.“
It was recently reported that coach Vincent Kompany thinks highly of Diomande internally and that the club is monitoring the 19-year-old’s situation closely. According to the report, Munich are positioning themselves strategically for possible talks in the summer should concrete options arise. The biggest obstacle remains the transfer fee of around 100 million euros that Leipzig are asking for. Legal details from the winger’s past could also complicate negotiations.
Should Bayern nevertheless become active on the wing in the summer, Matthäus sees other names ahead. He says of Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Touré: „I’ve heard that Bayern are interested in Hoffenheim’s Touré. A signing like that would make sense to me. Touré has shown that he has potential at TSG. Behind Díaz, he could develop and be built up for the future.“
He also believes Brajan Gruda can take the next step: „If Gruda plays like he once did in Mainz, then he can play his way into Bayern’s shop window. But we’ll have to keep an eye on him over the next few months. He’s on loan from Brighton for the time being without an option to buy.“
