With Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry, two FCB professionals have recently extended their contracts. Munich are also actively working on an extension for Harry Kane. What is the situation with Michael Olise? Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has now spoken out about this
Michael Olise has long been an integral part of FC Bayern’s attack. What began in the summer of 2024 with a transfer fee of around 53 million euros has since proven to be a real hit. The Frenchman is one of the defining faces under Vincent Kompany – both in sporting and strategic terms
So it’s no wonder that international interest has long since been aroused. Clubs such as Liverpool FC, Arsenal FC, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old’s development. But at Säbener Straße, they remain demonstratively calm
„Michael has developed incredibly. You couldn’t have imagined that he would make such an impact, play such an important role and score so many goals,“ enthused sporting director Christoph Freund in an interview with Sky. The figures back up this assessment impressively: in 89 competitive matches for the record champions to date, Olise has scored 33 goals and provided 48 assists. In the current season, he has scored 38 goals in 34 appearances – absolute top figures
No time pressure despite international competition

Despite his strong development and the growing attention from abroad, FC Bayern apparently feels no pressure to act with regard to a contract extension. Olise is still tied up until 2029 – without an exit clause. An important factor in strategic planning
„We’re very happy with him. But we’re not under any stress now, we’ve signed a long-term contract with him,“ Freund clarified. An early extension is therefore not an acute issue at the moment – at least not out of concern about poaching attempts
At the same time, the sporting director left no doubt as to how much they are counting on Olise internally: „We can of course imagine, from Bayern’s point of view, that he will stay here for a very, very long time,“ Freund emphasized
Under Vincent Kompany, Olise has developed into a difference-maker. His creativity, dynamism and decision-making in the final third make him a central component of Munich’s attacking play. Together with Harry Kane and Luis Diaz, he forms one of the most dangerous attacking ensembles in Europe.
