At FC Bayern, the central defense for the coming season is actually clearly planned – and that has a direct impact on Nico Schlotterbeck
According to Sport BILD, a transfer of the Dortmund player to Munich is no longer an issue, due to the current squad structure of the Bayern defense
Behind Dayot Upamecano, who is about to extend his contract, and defender Jonathan Tah, those responsible believe the squad is currently adequately staffed. With Josip Stanisic, Minjae Kim and Hiroki Ito, there are three backup options available. Under these circumstances, a move for Schlotterbeck, which has been discussed in the meantime, has probably been shelved for the time being
According to the report, however, the situation could still change, with a Schlotterbeck transfer back on the agenda should Minjae Kim approach Bayern bosses with a transfer request. However, this is not currently the case. The South Korean, who is still under contract until 2028, is currently taking his reserve role in his stride
According to Sport BILD, Kim is not dissatisfied as he is able to heal the after-effects of his physical problems from last season. His clear goal is to get one hundred per cent fit again so that he can then start competing for a regular place. Only if this patience does not pay off in sporting terms by the end of the season will Kim reassess his future
Guéhi remains a candidate at FC Bayern
Irrespective of Schlotterbeck, Bayern are still on the lookout for alternatives. Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace in particular remains an issue should the England international come onto the market on a free transfer in the summer. At the same time, Munich are aware that a Guéhi deal could also go through this winter
The background to this is Manchester City’s acute need for defenders, with Pep Guardiola urgently looking to strengthen his defense after several injuries, which could further accelerate the transfer poker
For the time being, Nico Schlotterbeck’s chances at Bayern are therefore largely dependent on Minjae Kim. As long as the South Korean does not force a transfer, a Munich move for the BVB defender remains rather unlikely.
