Will Max Eberl stay at FC Bayern for the long term? A timeframe for this decision has now apparently been set
There are increasing signs that Max Eberl’s future at FC Bayern will be a long-term one. The latest developments in the club’s sporting planning have significantly strengthened the sporting director’s position – and apparently have a direct influence on an upcoming fundamental decision
According to Sport BILD, Munich’s squad plans for the summer of 2026 are already in place. This would fulfil a key wish of Uli Hoeneß. The supervisory board had recently emphasised several times that FC Bayern needed to act earlier, more structured and with more foresight on the transfer market. This is exactly what now seems to be happening under Eberl
The fact that the plans are so far advanced is seen as a big plus for Eberl within the club. According to the report, the supervisory board wants to decide on the 51-year-old’s future by the end of the year at the latest. His contract still runs until June 2027, but the signs are clearly pointing to an extension
Eberl appears to be fulfilling Hoeneß‘ expectation that transfer periods should no longer be hectic at the end. Instead of reacting to short-term developments, potential new arrivals should be identified and prepared for at an early stage. This approach is seen as a lesson from past transfer windows at Säbener Straße
Eberl brought Kompany to FC Bayern
Max Eberl took over as Chief Sports Officer at FC Bayern on 1 March 2024, succeeding Hasan Salihamidzic, who the club had already parted ways with in May 2023. One of his first major tasks was to fill the coaching position

In the end, Eberl opted for Vincent Kompany. The appointment of the then still relatively inexperienced coach was initially viewed with scepticism, but in retrospect is seen as the right decision. Kompany quickly stabilized the team and gave the team a recognizable sporting line. Top transfers such as those of Michael Olise and Luis Diaz can also be attributed to Eberl. Due to the overall positive balance, the supervisory board is now apparently leaning towards an extension with Eberl.
