Slomka warns Rangnick about Bayern: „A lot of alpha males who want a say“

Everything points to Ralf Rangnick becoming the new head coach at FC Bayern. His former assistant coach Mirko Slomka believes he is the right choice, but also warns of potential problems.

In an interview with Sky, Slomka made it clear that Rangnick is definitely capable of leading FC Bayern successfully: „I think so.“ Despite losing the championship, the coach, who is currently without a club, doesn’t think Bayern’s current season has been too bad.

He is also convinced that his former companion can adapt well to the current situation in Munich: „He is not someone who just brings his kind of football game onto the pitch, but someone who, I think, looks very, very intensively at the qualities within a team and looks at them: What is the best product that can come out in the end with these players?“

Slomka is positive about the fact that Rangnick will probably demand a certain amount of freedom to make decisions, as he did in his previous positions: „I think it’s totally genuine that he says: ‚No, when I come, I also need a certain amount of freedom‘ I also need to be allowed to see where I can make adjustments to change things.“

Slomka also sees the fact that Rangnick already knows parts of the Bayern management as a plus point, because he „basically assumes that Ralf Rangnick and Christoph Freund know each other from the RB family. Of course, Max Eberl also appreciates the fact that Ralf is someone who turns over every stone.“

Too „many alpha animals“ at Bayern?

Despite the advance praise, there could be potential for conflict in one place or another should Rangnick actually take over from Thomas Tuchel.

However, Slomka is „very sure that he will also accept and accept other opinions alongside himself and must of course also accept them at Bayern.“ He is convinced that there are many alpha animals at Bayern, but is certain that Rangnick is someone who can bring everything together and work exclusively to ensure that Bayern Munich wins the next title.
