FC Bayern is once again sliding into crisis. On the 28th matchday, the Munich side were beaten 2:3 by 1. FC Heidenheim, despite leading 2:0 at the break. It was a historic defeat for the German record champions.
After the 2-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund, FC Bayern suffered their second defeat in a row in the Bundesliga. Thomas Tuchel’s team suffered a 3:2 defeat at newly promoted 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday.
Particularly bitter: Bayern were two goals in front at half-time thanks to goals from Harry Kane (38′) and Serge Gnabry (45′). After the break, however, Heidenheim turned the game around within 29 minutes. Kevin Sessa (50) and Tim Kleindienst (51/79) scored for HCH.
It was FCB’s fifth league defeat of the current season. The last time they conceded so much was in the 2011/12 season. The gap to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen is now 16 points. Should VfB Stuttgart win against Borussia Dortmund today, the Swabians would draw level with Bayern (60 points).
First defeat in more than 20 years against a promoted team
This is only the third time in Bundesliga history that Bayern have squandered a 2-0 lead. The last time Munich let a 2-0 lead slip was almost three years ago, when they lost 3-2 to Borussia Mönchengladbach in January 2021.
Another painful statistic for the record champions: The defeat against Heidenheim is the first defeat against a newly promoted team since October 2000 (0:1 against Energie Cottbus).
