In view of the speculation surrounding the departure of left-back Alphonso Davies, Munich could have a need for a replacement in the summer. The focus could be on a player from Borussia Dortmund, who is currently on loan at BVB.
According to a report by HITC Football, Dutchman Ian Maatsen, who is currently on loan at BVB from Chelsea FC, is on Bayern’s list. The 22-year-old left-back has earned himself a regular place under coach Edin Terzic, but his future in Dortmund still seems uncertain.
Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently commented on the club’s financial situation and hinted that a permanent signing of loan players such as Maatsen and Jadon Sancho would require considerable funds, which are currently not available.
The release clause in Maatsen’s contract with Chelsea, which runs until 2026, amounts to around €41 million. Bayern would probably have no problem paying this sum if the Canadian Davies were to leave for Real Madrid.
Robinson also a topic in Munich?
In addition to Maatsen, Bayern are also keeping an eye on Antonee Robinson from Fulham FC, who is also at home on the left side of defence, according to the same report. Robinson, who has a contract with Fulham until 2028, is also said to have attracted the interest of other top clubs such as Chelsea FC.
Meanwhile, a decision on Davies‘ future at FC Bayern has yet to be made. Despite a „very concrete, appreciative offer“, as sporting director Max Eberl put it, it is still unclear whether the Canadian will extend his contract in Munich. Davies himself is reportedly demanding an annual salary of €20 million, while Bayern are only prepared to pay a maximum of €14 million per year. The German record champions are now said to have set a clear deadline for the speedy left-back.
