Joshua Kimmich has been linked with a move to FC Barcelona for some time now. Even if the Catalans are not really in a financial position to make such a top transfer in the summer, they are optimistic that they will make a move for the 29-year-old.
As the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reports, Joshua Kimmich is still at the top of Barça coach Xavi’s transfer list. According to the paper, Barcelona want to rebuild their midfield in the summer and are looking for a new defensive midfielder. Kimmich has therefore been chosen as a favoured transfer target.
Due to the relatively short remaining term of Kimmich’s contract (2025), the Camp Nou is hoping to sign the DFB star for a bargain price in the region of 30-40 million, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Kimmich is a great admirer of Xavi
As Sky recently revealed, Kimmich can certainly imagine a move to Spain’s La Liga. In addition to Real Madrid, FC Barcelona would also be an interesting option for the 29-year-old.
BILD is now fuelling the rumours surrounding Kimmich: According to the paper, the latter is a big fan of Xavi. This could be a plus point for Barcelona should Kimmich actually end up on the transfer market in the summer.
However, it remains to be seen whether this will happen. Kimmich recently emphasised that he is fully focused on the current season with Bayern and then on the European Championships. He doesn’t want to look more closely at his sporting future until after the tournament. At the same time, the defensive all-rounder emphasised that FCB remains his first port of call.
One thing is clear: if he does not sign an extension, Bayern will push for a sale in the summer.

Xavi ist ja auch ein Schaumschläger. Er darf nur bleiben, weil sich der Club keinen neuen Trainer leisten kann. Ein Titel in 3 Jahren. Weia.

Für mich ist Xavi kein guter Coach. Da geht der Kimmich lieber zu Alonso als zu Xavi. Selbst, wenn er wegen Xavi gehen sollte, sollte Kimmich doch schlau genug zu wissen, dass Xavi nicht ewig bei Barca bleiben wird.
