Salihamidzic reveals that the club had monitored Mathys Tel for over two years

Mathys Tel’s transfer to Bayern Munich on a very high fee for a 17 years old sparked surprise in Germany and not only. Although he is currently ineligible to play for the club, for now, the potential that the striker has is huge.



In the Supercup win against RB Leipzig, a total of four newcomers celebrated their competitive debut for Bayern Munich. While Mathys Tel despite his ineligibility to play, was allowed to train with the team during the warm up and later lift the trophy as the club wants to integrate the Frenchman as quickly as possible. If everything goes according to plan, the youngster could participate in the Bundesliga opener against Eintracht Frankfurt next Friday.

Mathys Tel, with 10 competitive appearances for Stade Rennes, was signed for a fee of 28.5 million euros, which include bonus payments. According to Bayern’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, the money is well invested. The Bavarians have scouted Tel intensively for some time: „We have been watching him for over 2 years and are all convinced of him. It is now the job of everyone at the club to give him playing time and rhythm.”

According to the information of German tabloid, „BILD“, two top European clubs, Real Madrid and Juventus were chasing after Tel. Salihamidzic says: „We are proud and happy that a great talent like Mathys has chosen us.“

Salihamidzic is convinced that Tel has all the skills and qualities to prevail with the German record champions: „He has great strengths. He has the striker gene in his blood. He can shoot very well and I think we will have a lot of fun with him.”
