The fronts between Robert Lewandowski and the Bayern Munich board are hardening. The constant pressure of the player for a departure and the hesitancy to let go of the striker from the board without signing a replacement is causing mutual displeasure.

On Monday, Lewandowski showed dissatisfaction with the club’s attitude towards him as he wants to be let go and join his new club, reportedly FC Barcelona. „I don’t want to play for Bayern anymore, the chapter is closed. Bayern are a serious club and I hope they don’t stop me just because they want to“, with these words, Lewandowski caused quite a stir earlier this week.

In an interview for BILD am Sonntag, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer responded to Lewandowski’s recent behavior early in the week. According to Hainer, it is shocking that Lewandowski behaved quite bluntly in his statements on Monday: „We have always said that Robert Lewandowski has a contract with FC Bayern until June 30, 2023. And a contract is a contract! […] I’m a bit surprised that Robert chose the public route, I wouldn’t have done it if I were him.“

Lewandowski stayed at Bayern Munich for eight years, scored a lot of goals, won a lot of trophies and became one of the club’s greatest players. The same sentiment is also shared by Hainer: „He has been at FC Bayern for a long time, has won many titles with us: the Champions League, eight Bundesliga, he became world’s best player twice with us.“

„I think he knows very well what he has at Bayern, namely a club that treats their players very well, and does everything to allow the players to perform at their best.“

Hainer also repeats Oliver Kahn’s words on Monday in response to Lewandowski’s behavior: „I have to say, appreciation is not a one way street!“
