The rumors surrounding Robert Lewandowski have recently increased considerably. Time and again, the top goal scorer has been linked with an early departure from FC Bayern. Now Julian Nagelsmann has also expressed himself for the first time on the speculation and has shown himself relatively relaxed.
In an interview with the “Sky Germany”, Nagelsmann emphasized that there have always been rumors about Lewandowski and his future with the German record champion: “The rumors about Robert Lewandowski have been around for ages. I think ever since he joined FC Bayern.” In addition, the 33-year-old made it clear that it was quite normal for a striker with such an outstanding goal stats to arouse desire among other clubs and for them to “put out feelers and sound out what’s possible.”
Nagelsmann announces talks with Lewandowski
According to the FCB coach, there has already been an initial exchange between the two. However, it was not about contractual issues: “His answers about vacation planning and showing up at training all sounded very good and top-motivated.” However, Nagelsmann will make up for this as soon as he can talk to the Pole in person: “I’m not a big fan of immediately discussing the contractual situation or the rumors with new players as my first official act, but I’ll do that one-on-one when he’s here.”
From Nagelsmann’s point of view, however, there is no real reason for Lewandowski to leave Bayern, certainly not before his contract expires in 2023: “On the one hand, Robert knows what he has in FC Bayern Munich and the team – that’s point one. On the other hand, there is a contractual situation.”
