“We are happy that we were able to win Dayot Upamecano for FC Bayern Munich,” sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told the club’s official website.
“Dayot will be a very important component for our team in the coming years, we are convinced of that.”
Upamecano was linked with a switch away from Leipzig for a long time, and Bayern swooped in early to active his release clause which would become active at the end of the current season.
His arrival at the Allianz Arena comes at a time when both David Alaba and Jerome Boateng will be out of contract in the summer, and Niklas Sule will be entering the final year of his deal.
The Frenchman has made 139 appearances for RB Leipzig, since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in 2017.
