According to Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kahn, the German giants are now almost certain that defender David Alaba is “looking around” when it comes to deciding his playing future.
He has been without a doubt the most consistent players for Bayern in the Champions League and Bundesliga since making the move to Munich back in 2008 from Austria Wien.
To date, Alaba has made over 400 appearances for Bayern and has won an incredible 23 major trophies and that includes two European Cups and an astonishing nine Bundesliga titles.
The Austrian international was a pivotal player for Bayern last season as they won the treble. Alaba has also played regularly for Hansi Flick’s side so far this season.
Unfortunately for Bayern fans, the contract situation for Alaba has been the centre of attention with the defender’s contract due to be up next summer. Bayern took their contract offer for Alaba off the table after it was reported that he was unwilling to co-operate during the negotiations.
Since then, many clubs have been interested in his services with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and PSG all interested in the defender.
Bayern boss Hansi Flick has told Alaba that he will have to make a clear decision regarding his footballing future when he was interviewed by Die Welt in November.
“David should take responsibility and decide for himself what is important to him,” said the Bayern boss.
Oliver Kahn who is currently a board member at the Allianz Arena and is due to replace current CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a year’s time has said that the Austrian international made the decision to make himself available for offers from other clubs.
This was after Bayern had given him the opportunity to new contract terms with the German champions.
Kahn was asked if he thought Alaba could potentially still agree a new deal in Munich as he spoke to Sport Bild: “At the moment I don’t know how that should happen.
“We rolled out the red carpet for David Alaba and went to our limits. David and especially his advisor Pini Zahavi have not walked that red carpet.
“It looks like he’s looking around. We have to accept that.”
It looks like Alaba is on his way out of Bayern after enjoying a successful career in Germany as it appears that he is ready for a new challenge, where exactly that will be is still unclear.
