Thomas Tuchel has decided to leave Thomas Müller out of the starting eleven for the Champions League clash against Manchester City. After the first 45 minutes the Bavarians are down 1:0 after a goal from Rodri. Before the game, the 49-year-old revealed why the original Bavarian will have to sit on the bench.
Against Borussia Dortmund and SC Freiburg (Cup and Bundesliga), Thomas Müller was in the starting eleven in all three of new coach Thomas Tuchel’s games. In the quarter-final first leg against Manchester City, the 33-year-old is, somewhat surprisingly, only on the substitutes‘ bench.
Tuchel had this to say about his decision before the game: „I love Thomas, but we decided to go for the speed today“. The 49-year-old expects it to be a very run-intensive game and Bayern will need more pace on the offensive.
„There is no problem at all“
According to the FCB coach, it was a „tough decision“ to bench Müller, but he took it well: „We had a short, good conversation- He is smart, he knows what to expect from us and from him. Manchester City is not such a good fit for him, there is no problem at all.“
