Following the cancellations of Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann, FC Bayern is still on the lookout for a new coach for the coming season. According to the latest reports, Sebastian Hoeneß, the current coach of VfB Stuttgart, could now once again become the focus of the record champions.

Despite recently extending his contract until 2027, the nephew of honorary president Uli Hoeneß could once again become an issue in Munich. His contract is said to allow for possible exit options. According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, Hoeneß is once again being discussed among those responsible at Bayern following Nagelsmann’s cancellation.

The connection to FC Bayern, where he already worked as a youth and second-team coach, is strong: „A coach must also have the option of terminating an employment relationship if certain parameters are not right. I think that’s the norm these days,“ explained Dieter Hoeneß, Sebastian’s father, recently in an interview with Sky.

Despite the contract extension, Hoeneß emphasised that the possibility of him joining Bayern was always on the table: „We knew that he was on Bayern’s list. But there were no talks.“

Does Hoeneß have a „Bayern clause“?

Hoeneß himself feels at home in Stuttgart and still wants to achieve a lot with the team, but the sporting challenge in Munich could appeal to the young coach. Stuttgart are having an impressive season under the 41-year-old. They are currently in 3rd place in the table, level on points with FC Bayern in second place. This would put Stuttgart in the Champions League next season.

The possibility of taking over at Bayern remains an attractive option should the opportunity arise. A possible „Bayern clause“ could play a decisive role here. This is an exit option that allows Sebastian to respond to an offer from the Munich club.
