FC Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel broke his toe during a passionate motivational speech before the Lazio game. He talks about his injury ahead of the game against Mainz on Saturday.

FC Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel began the press conference ahead of FC Bayern’s Bundesliga match against Mainz 05 by briefly holding up his foot in a special boot and laughing as he said: „The coach is not a malingerer.

During his motivational speech before the Champions League match against Lazio Rome on Tuesday , Tuchel had kicked a door and broken his toe.

Tuchel reported on his injury: „The big toe is broken. I don’t know yet whether I’ll be able to stand for long. It’s getting better day by day. I’m trying to find a solution with a stable shoe. I’ve already coached enough games sitting down, including against Lazio.“

Tuchel: „I’m more mobile than I expected“

Most recently, Tuchel sat on an aluminium suitcase on the sidelines for long stretches of the home game against RB Leipzig – even without injury. The 50-year-old said that something similar could also be a solution for Saturday: „If I want to be close to the edge of the pitch, I might need a box. Maybe a sturdy shoe will also work for the duration of the game.“

Tuchel believes that Bayern’s daily training work will not suffer as a result of his injury: „I won’t be playing any passes and I won’t be active in training over the next few weeks either. But there will be no drop in quality,“ he said with a smile.

Tuchel continued: „I’m more mobile than I expected. I can now walk in this huge boot without any complaints. I’ll be on the pitch with them later, so that shouldn’t really be a problem for an hour or an hour and a half.“
