The celebrated derby victory against TSV 1860 Munich could have bitter consequences for FC Bayern’s second team. Following the 4-2 victory at Grünwalder Stadium, the Munich team faces a severe penalty from the Bavarian Soccer Association (BFV). The reason: massive incidents involving pyrotechnics in the visitors’ section. In the worst-case scenario, Bayern II could even face a point deduction.
On the field, the city derby was a success for coach Dante’s team. The Bayern amateurs prevailed 4-2 over their local rivals in an intense match. However, the game was marred by several incidents.
While Dante was shown a red card in the 59th minute, the traveling Bayern fans caused trouble by repeatedly setting off pyrotechnics. The association is now investigating the incidents.
Bayern II faces a deduction of at least one point
As reported by BILD, it is very likely that the ongoing proceedings against Bayern’s reserve team will result in a point deduction. According to the report, the BFV could deduct at least one point.
The incidents were triggered by several pyrotechnic displays by Bayern ultras during the second half.
After the score was temporarily 3-2 in the 51st minute, numerous flares were lit in the visitors’ section. Rockets were also set off. As a result, the match had to be suspended for about four minutes.
Unlike the Bayern supporters, the fans of TSV 1860 refrained from using pyrotechnics. This was apparently due to concerns about potential point deductions in the promotion race.
The Bavarian Football Association (BFV) has since reviewed the incidents and evaluated the relevant stadium reports. The association’s attorney subsequently filed charges for the offenses.
The clubs involved now have the opportunity to respond. A final decision has yet to be made.
Bayern’s amateur team has already been penalized several times
Particularly problematic for FC Bayern is its track record. The second team has already been sanctioned several times in recent months for pyrotechnics violations by its supporters.
In May 2025, following an incident at 1. FC Schweinfurt 05, the BFV imposed a fine of 12,000 euros and a point deduction.
In February 2026, another penalty followed after pyrotechnics were used during an away game against Wacker Burghausen. At that time, the Munich club had to pay 26,000 euros and lost another point.
In July 2026, two additional points were deducted due to another incident in Burghausen. This was accompanied by a fine of 16,750 euros.
In total, Bayern’s amateur team has already lost four points due to pyrotechnics violations.
According to BFV regulations, a game interruption of at least five minutes due to pyrotechnics can lead directly to a point deduction. Although this threshold was not reached during the derby—the interruption lasted about four minutes—
However, the repeated incidents and the penalties imposed so far could play a decisive role in the assessment.
For Bayern II, another point deduction would be particularly bitter. It could, at least in part, diminish the significance of their prestigious victory over their city rivals.
It remains to be seen whether the association will actually resort to this drastic measure. One thing is clear, however: the 4-2 derby victory is likely to keep the Bayern amateurs busy for a while yet.
