Now that Jürgen Klopp has taken over as head coach of the German national team, he may find himself interacting more frequently with Bayern coach Vincent Kompany in the future. The two know each other from their time in the Premier League, when Klopp was with Liverpool and Kompany was captain of Manchester City as they battled for titles. Kompany did not say whether the two had already spoken to each other.
Following the disappointing World Cup and Julian Nagelsmann’s resignation, Jürgen Klopp was introduced as the new coach of the German national team.
Klopp will be sitting in the stands watching the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup match between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern. The game could also provide an opportunity for a reunion with Bayern coach Vincent Kompany. The two know each other from their time together in the Premier League.
As fellow coaches, the two are likely to interact more frequently in the future. Traditionally, FC Bayern provides a large contingent of players for the DFB team, which suggests there will be frequent communication between the national team coach and the Bayern coach.
However, Kompany declined to reveal whether an initial conversation between the two coaches had already taken place. When asked about this, the Bayern coach responded with a telling remark.
Kompany is keeping his cards close to his chest
“I’d rather not say,” Kompany explained when asked if he had already spoken with Klopp.
The Belgian didn’t want to reveal much more at this point. At the same time, he made it clear that he has known the new German national team coach for many years and has closely followed his work in England.
„I’ve known Jürgen Klopp for a long time from England and am looking forward to working with him,“ Kompany said.
The two faced off against each other several times during their time in the Premier League. Kompany captained Manchester City, while Klopp was on the sidelines for Liverpool FC. One of the most exciting rivalries in English soccer developed between the two clubs.
“We’ve competed against each other at the very highest level for many years,” Kompany said.
Now the roles are changing. Klopp is no longer a club coach in England but is now in charge of the German national team. Kompany, on the other hand, remains on the sidelines at Bayern Munich and could find himself regularly interacting with the DFB and its new coaching staff in the future.

Will there be an exchange soon?
It remains to be seen whether the two have already spoken. Kompany did, however, announce that a personal meeting will definitely take place.
“We’ll have an open discussion at some point,” the Belgian explained.
For FC Bayern, cooperation with the national team is of great importance anyway. Numerous Munich players are members of the German national team. There are therefore likely to be regular points of contact between the club and the DFB in the future.
The exchange with Kompany should also be of interest to Klopp. The German national team coach will work closely with the German Bayern stars and monitor their development.
