Max Eberl is fighting for a new contract with FC Bayern this summer. The sporting director has laid the groundwork very well and secured two top transfers early on. Nevertheless, no decision has yet been made regarding his future.
Uli Hoeneß recently stated that things are looking very good for Eberl. Nevertheless, the supervisory board as a whole must also share this view. At the meeting scheduled for a few weeks from now, the Eberl issue will definitely be discussed—and perhaps even resolved once and for all.
FC Bayern, including Eberl, is currently on a tour of Asia. The tour, which includes friendly matches against Jeju SK and Aston Villa, serves marketing purposes, among other things, but is also part of the team’s preparation for the new season. During this tour, Herbert Hainer, Bayern’s president, has now also commented on the Eberl situation.
Hainer on Eberl: “The supervisory board’s responsibility”
The president said: “I’m assuming that’s what Uli meant—that we’re very satisfied with the transfer window. We had discussed beforehand that we were looking to fill two positions: a backup on the offensive side, and we wanted to add speed to the back line.”
Eberl has thus already achieved the club’s transfer market goals in terms of signings. Hainer emphasized this once again.
“I’m very confident that we’ve filled those spots with two very good players. On the other hand, we’ve also let go of more than ten players, I believe, and brought in money, which was also a requirement. We still have four weeks to perhaps find a club for one or two more players,” explained the Bayern president.
He then returned to the topic of Eberl in more detail: “To answer your question: That’s the supervisory board’s job. And I’m convinced that the supervisory board will make a good decision. I have to say, this applies just as much to Jan-Christian Dreesen, whose work we’re equally satisfied with.”
So, from the sports director’s perspective, that sounds promising once again—especially if the club manages to offload one or two more players who aren’t getting much playing time.
