At FC Bayern, changes are continuing not only in the professional squad but also in the youth program. According to recent media reports, longtime Campus fitness trainer Carsten Schünemann is set to be let go.
As the record champions continue to reshape their roster for the new season, there also appears to be movement behind the scenes within the coaching staff at the FC Bayern Campus.
As reported by the tz, the club will part ways with Carsten Schünemann in the near future. The 57-year-old has served as a fitness trainer in the youth program for the past seven years.
Internal Criticism of Schünemann
According to the report, Schünemann has reportedly been viewed critically within the club for quite some time. Among other things, he is accused of mishandling the training load for young players and having difficulties getting along with fellow coaches at the Campus.
There has been no official confirmation from FC Bayern regarding the allegations or a possible separation so far.
Successor Apparently Already in Sight
According to tz, the Munich club is already considering potential successors. Quirin Löppert, who is already employed by FC Bayern, is being touted as an internal candidate.
Johannes Wieber is also said to be a candidate. The current employee of 1. FC Nürnberg previously worked at FC Bayern between 2013 and 2019 and is therefore considered to be very familiar with the club’s structures.
Further changes possible
According to information from tz, Schünemann’s departure may not be the only change in the youth department.
According to the report, campus physician Jan-Philipp Müller is also under internal scrutiny. The background to this, according to the report, is several medical assessments in which recovery and rehabilitation times were allegedly set longer than would ultimately have been necessary.
Whether this will actually lead to further personnel changes remains to be seen. FC Bayern has not yet issued a statement.
