Philipp Lahm has repeatedly been linked with a return to FC Bayern. The former captain of the German record champions was considered a possible candidate for a role at FCB early on due to his leadership qualities and strategic thinking. Now Lahm himself has commented on a possible Bayern return
Since the end of his career in 2017, Philipp Lahm has deliberately kept his distance from day-to-day club business. Immediately after retiring from professional soccer, the 2014 world champion decided against immediately joining FC Bayern or another club
Instead, the former full-back dedicated himself to various projects, including becoming an ambassador for the 2024 European Championship in Germany, investing in companies and expanding his foundation
The 42-year-old is currently also working in an advisory capacity for VfB Stuttgart, where Lahm currently seems to feel very much at home
At the Local Journalism Day at the Merkur/tz editorial office, the former Bayern captain spoke openly about his current situation: „I feel so comfortable in my role at the moment. I’m allowed to advise VfB Stuttgart and have great tasks in my foundation,“ explained Lahm
The former world-class player also seems to be more than busy in other ways. „I’m still a coach in the youth sector, I have a company. So, I’m well occupied and I’m enjoying it. My life is great,“ Lahm continued
FC Bayern apparently not an issue at the moment

Of course, the question of a possible return to FC Bayern also came up during his visit. After all, Lahm has spent almost his entire career at the German record champions, winning the Champions League, numerous championships and the treble in 2013, among others
However, a concrete return does not seem to be on the table at the moment. In any case, Lahm did not react euphorically to the topic. „That’s why I’m not thinking about FC Bayern right now, if I’m honest,“ the former international explained surprisingly clearly
The statement at least suggests that a return to Säbener Straße is currently not a concrete topic for the 42-year-old
In any case, it remains to be seen what role Lahm could take on at FC Bayern. In recent years, there has been repeated speculation about possible management positions or tasks in the sporting field
So far, however, Lahm has consciously decided against a commitment to the record champions – and this does not appear to be changing, at least in the short term.
