Jan-Christian Dreesen has been at the helm of FC Bayern as CEO since 2023. In the OMR podcast, the 58-year-old has now spoken in more detail for the first time about his personal future at the German record champions – and explained when a decision will be made on a possible contract extension
The Bayern boss’s current contract runs until the summer of 2027, but the issue of an extension is likely to be on the club management’s agenda in the coming months
As Dreesen explained, it is customary at FC Bayern to hold initial talks about the future around a year before the end of the contract. These talks should also take place in his case in the foreseeable future. „The supervisory board will talk to both Max and me in the summer,“ explained the CEO
This refers to sporting director Max Eberl, whose contract also expires at a similar time. According to Dreesen, the contract also stipulates that there must be clarity about further cooperation at least six months before it expires. „This must be settled at least six months before the end of the contract,“ said the Bayern boss
Recently, there have been increasing reports that Eberl in particular is worried about an extension, but according to BILD, there are many indications that Dreesen’s contract will be extended

Dreesen emphasized several times in the podcast that he really enjoys his current role. Since his move from CFO to CEO, his perspective on the club has changed significantly once again. „It’s completely different than it used to be as CFO and COO,“ he explained
The responsibility is greater, decisions have to be made more quickly – at the same time, he particularly enjoys this role. „I really enjoy doing what I do,“ Dreesen made clear
As far as his personal future is concerned, the Bayern boss cites one decisive factor above all: passion for the job. As long as this is present, he could imagine continuing his work at FC Bayern
Dreesen also emphasized that he has based his entire professional career on this principle: „I have always done what I have done with passion.“
At the same time, it is important to stay true to yourself and regularly reflect on whether you are still fully committed to your job. His personal benchmark is a simple thought: you have to be able to look in the mirror in the morning with a good feeling. „If you no longer recognize yourself in the mirror, you should do something else very quickly.“
On the contrary: the Bayern boss seems motivated – and could stay with the record champions for a few more years.
