The people in charge at FC Bayern are apparently planning to bring a former star back to the German record champions
Things are going well at FC Bayern in sporting terms – the youngsters in particular regularly make the headlines. Now there is apparently going to be a change at the top of the Bayern campus
Two home-grown players, Felipe Chávez and David Santos, were in the squad for the 5-1 away win in Leipzig, with Lennart Karl even starting from the beginning. With Wisdom Mike and Cassiano Kiala, the next talents are already pushing forward. The successful development at the campus is obvious – but according to information from Sport BILD, Bayern are planning a structural change
The focus is on the management of the youth academy. The background to this is the increased workload of campus boss Jochen Sauer. The 53-year-old is no longer exclusively responsible for the youth academy in Munich, but is heavily involved in the international „Red and Gold“ project. FC Bayern cooperates with Los Angeles FC and partner clubs in Ecuador and Gambia, among others. The international network involves numerous trips, organizational tasks and strategic coordination
Sauer is to be relieved
In order to take the pressure off Sauer, those responsible are examining a new division of tasks. In future, Sauer is to concentrate more on overarching, international issues, while a new manager will manage day-to-day operations on campus – always in close coordination with him
One prominent name comes to mind: Michael Wiesinger is considered a top candidate in Munich. The 53-year-old has been head of youth development at 1. FC Nuremberg since 2019 and is highly regarded there. Wiesinger was already a topic of discussion at FC Bayern last year. The former midfielder wore the Bayern shirt himself between 1999 and 2001 and knows the club very well. However, a final decision has not yet been made
Possible renovations on campus
A possible new appointment at the top could be accompanied by further personnel changes. Markus Weinzierl, sporting director at the Campus since August 2024, has a contract until the summer. It remains to be seen whether he will continue beyond that. Head youth scout Florian Zahn, on the other hand, is expected to be given more responsibility in the future
Adjustments could also be made on the coaching side, with Holger Seitz currently in charge of the second team and Peter Gaydarov responsible for the U19s. Bayern are still keen to appoint coaches with FCB DNA, which is why the name Tobias Schweinsteiger, who previously worked at the youth academy and was assistant coach of the U17s between 2015 and 2017, has been circulating
One thing is clear: despite sporting successes in the youth sector, Bayern want to further sharpen their structures. The campus remains a central project for the future – now apparently with prominent reinforcement.
