The search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel at FC Bayern is never-ending. FCB are now apparently discussing two new names: a former FC Barcelona coach and a Man City shocker.

Following the cancellation of Ralf Rangnick, FC Bayern is back to square one in its search for a coach. A successor to Thomas Tuchel, who has to leave FCB at the end of the season, is not in sight.

In the meantime, it has even come to the point where Tuchel himself explicitly points out that it is theoretically possible for him to stay at FC Bayern beyond the summer.

Sporting director Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund have no choice but to sound out the market for new names. According to Sky, Bayern have already enquired with former Spanish national team coach Julen Lopetegui.

The renowned French sports daily L’Equipe brings two completely new names into play, which are said to have been discussed internally at the record champions.

One is former FC Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde. The 60-year-old led Athletic Bilbao to the Copa del Rey this season and his contract with the Spanish cup winners expires at the end of the season. He won the Primera Division championship with Barca in 2018 and 2019.

Good memories of Garcia

The second candidate is Rudi Garcia. The Frenchman is currently without a club after being released by SSC Napoli last November. However, he has enjoyed success with French clubs in the past. He reached the Europa League final with Olympique Marseille in 2017/2018.

in 2020, he and Olympique Lyon knocked Manchester City out of the Champions League final tournament and advanced to the semi-finals of the top flight. Lyon were beaten there by eventual winners FC Bayern, which is why Munich have fond memories of the 60-year-old.

Both candidates are experienced coaches, which is an important argument for Supervisory Board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in particular.

However, the duo are apparently only being discussed as a temporary solution.
