Does Sebastian Hoeneß have a „Bayern clause“ in his contract?

While Sebastian Hoeneß recently extended his contract as coach of VfB Stuttgart and delivered an impressive season, comments made by his father Dieter Hoeneß raise questions about possible future plans and contract details. The 41-year-old coach was seen as one of the possible successors to Tuchel at FC Bayern.

Dieter Hoeneß, a former international and experienced Bundesliga manager, made some interesting comments about the terms of his son Sebastian’s contract on the sidelines of Stuttgart’s home game against Eintracht Frankfurt. „With a coach, it has to be the case that he also has the option of terminating an employment relationship if certain parameters are not right. I think that’s common practice these days,“ explained Hoeneß in an interview with Sky. Nevertheless, Hoeneß‘ extension at VfB is a clear commitment to the club.

According to Dieter Hoeneß, there was also no contact with the German record champions before his son signed his new contract: „We knew that he was on Bayern’s list. But there were no talks. We decided very early on, simply so as not to jeopardise the season, that there would be constant discussions and speculation.“

Story in Stuttgart „not yet told to the end“

Sebastian Hoeneß, meanwhile, is fully committed to VfB Stuttgart, as his father continues. „He says that the story is not yet finished.“ Sebastian, who took charge of VfB in the final stages of last season and saved the team from relegation, has led his team to a Champions League place this season – level on points with Munich.

However, Dieter Hoeneß‘ comments could be an indication that Sebastian is keeping an option open to move to a top club like Bayern Munich if the right circumstances arise. He would not be the first person in the football business with a so-called „Bayern clause“, an exit option that allows him to respond to an offer from the German record champions.
