The current situation at FC Bayern Munich is causing a lot of discussion. After the unexpected defeat in Heidenheim, the mood around Säbener Straße has reached a new low. A former Bayern professional also has a clear opinion on the current situation at the Munich club.
Mario Basler has spoken out in an interview with the Express and expressed his frustration at the German record champions‘ performance. „It’s very questionable what the Bayern team is doing. There is simply a lack of attitude,“ said Basler. The half-time lead against Heidenheim, which ultimately ended in defeat, is an example of the lack of attitude that one would actually expect from a club like Bayern Munich.
Basler’s criticism is not lacking in sharpness. Above all, he accuses the team of a lack of character. „I’m sure many of them didn’t even know where Heidenheim was. The players currently wearing the Bayern jersey are not really worthy of playing for this club,“ he added.
Basler clear: „This has nothing to do with the coach“
For Basler, it is clear that a change in personnel at FC Bayern is unavoidable. However, according to the 55-year-old, the problem does not lie with the coach: „With Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel, we have two of the top five coaches in the world. Neither of them work at FC Bayern. That shows that things aren’t right within the team. It has nothing to do with the coach.“
„I have to be honest: what these players have been getting away with for weeks now just pisses me off, it’s such an indictment,“ Basler continued. Despite the sobering situation, Basler sees no point in a change of coach in the short term. In his eyes, such a move would be „the biggest nonsense“ and would not improve the situation. „That would be even crazier than the idea of parting ways with Julian Nagelsmann back then,“ said the former midfielder.
