Youngster and FC Bayern Munich international Jamal Musiala has a bright future ahead of him. At just 21 years of age, he is already considered to have the potential to win the coveted Ballon d’Or one day. This high expectation has now been expressed by former England international Rio Ferdinand.

In an interview with TNT Sports, Ferdinand spoke highly of the FC Bayern Munich attacker. „This guy has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or. I’ve said it before. He has the potential to do it if the path is right for him and he plays in a successful team,“ Ferdinand said of Musiala. The 45-year-old former defender particularly emphasised Musiala’s abilities: „The way he receives the ball, he’s elusive. He survives a tackle and gets through traffic. He’s a fantastic footballer.“

Rio Ferdinand won the English championship six times in his career and the Champions League in 2008. He also took part in three World Cup finals. He is currently a TV pundit in England and his opinion carries weight in the motherland of football.

„That’s not the case with Musiala“

Musiala, who was born in Stuttgart and has both German and English citizenship, has already enjoyed significant success. He has won the Champions League and four league titles with FC Bayern Munich and has also played 25 senior international matches for the German national team.

According to Ferdinand, the special thing about Musiala is that you don’t know where his limits are. „I think the biggest compliment I can pay him is that I don’t know what his ceiling is. With most players, even if they’re only 20 or 22 years old, you think: ‚I think they’re going to reach this level and that’s it‘.“ The defender emphasised that this was not the case with Musiala.
