It wasn’t just the Bayern players who gave their all on the pitch yesterday in the 3-0 win against Lazio Roma, FCB coach Thomas Tuchel was also in his element. The 50-year-old injured himself during his motivational speech in the dressing room before the game. It has now been announced that Tuchel has broken his toe. Those responsible in Munich took the mickey out of their head coach.

Somewhat unusually for a coach, Tuchel repeatedly sprayed his boot with ice spray yesterday evening during the second leg of the round of 16 tie against Lazio Roma. According to his own statements, he „kicked something“ before the game and injured his big toe in the process.

As club boss Jan-Christian Dreesen revealed, Tuchel even broke his toe: „Thomas is full of enthusiasm and passion!“ joked the Bayern CEO after the 3:0 win in the mixed zone.

„Better the coach than a player“

President Herbert Hainer was also unable to resist a little „side blow“ in the direction of Tuchel: „Personally, I’d rather the coach break his toe than one of our players,“ commented Munich’s supervisory board chairman on the curious incident.

Tuchel himself took it with humour: „I don’t think I can get out of my shoe. The team probably wondered why I sat for almost 90 minutes,“ he explained in an interview with Prime Video.
