Ex-Bayern defender Babbel criticizes Kimmich: „He should play wherever the coach says“
Bayern Munich are put in front of criticism and the criticism has spared nobody. Not even Joshua Kimmich.
Former Bayern defender Markus Babbel has spoken in a critical tone towards the midfielder. According to German media, Kimmich was initially required to play right-back by Nagelsmann, as he wanted to field Mathys Tel but the midfielder refused to play in his old position. Instead, the German coach had to sub on Josip Stanisic
„He has earned a public standing in the last few years, so we all said, ‚world-class, amazing‘. Last season however I noticed that he no longer has the discipline“, said Babbel for Blickpunkt Sport.
According to Babbel, Kimmich does a lot of „theatrics“ on the pitch and requires from the midfielder more respect towards the coach: „He falls down with every little touch. He has to be more concentrated and disciplined again. […] Joshua is a key player, but he has to play what the coach says.“
Due to the incident in Augsburg where Kimmich reportedly did not do what the coach asked, Babbel demands more authority from Nagelsmann and criticizes Kimmich once again: „I have the feeling that he [Kimmich] wants to shine and that you can no longer attack him, let alone touch him due to his status“
„He should be taking a step back, or the coach should step up and put him on the bench if he doesn’t do what the coach requires“, continues Babbel.
