Chris Richards has officially left Bayern Munich on a permanent transfer after few seasons on loan. The club confirmed the transfer via a press release on Wednesday evening.

The American defender who joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2018 has not had any good chance of proving himself with the seniors. He had few loan experiences at Hoffenheim, now he has left the club on a permanent deal to Crystal Palace. The central defender has signed a contract in London until 2027.

Bayern Munich will reportedly collect a fixed fee of 12 million euros. Bonus payments can increase this to up to 20 million euros. A 35% of the fee will go to Dallas, Richards‘ former club

Richards has played a total of ten competitive games for the FC Bayern pros. He made 37 appearances for the Bayern amateurs (4 goals) and was a regular starting player in the 2019-2020 3rd league title-winning team. In the second half of 2020/21 and last season, he was loaned to TSG Hoffenheim.

Sport director Hasan Salihamidzic commented on the transfer as follows: „Chris Richards came to the FC Bayern campus at the age of 18. He showed his talent in his first year playing for our second team. […] It was now his great wish to prove himself in the English Premier League. We wanted to make that possible for him and we wish him all the best at Crystal Palace.”
