Harry Kane led England to the World Cup round of 16 with an outstanding performance. The Bayern Munich forward scored both goals for the Three Lions in their 2-1 victory over the Congo, once again proving to be the match-winner.
England has secured its spot in the round of 16 at the World Cup. Thomas Tuchel’s team came back from a deficit to defeat the Democratic Republic of the Congo 2-1—and could once again count on Harry Kane.
The captain of the English national team scored both goals, securing the Three Lions’ spot in the next round of the 2026 World Cup.
Kane single-handedly turned the game around
From England’s perspective, however, the match began anything but according to plan. As early as the 7th minute, Cipenga surprisingly put the underdog team from the Congo ahead with the game’s first shot on goal.
England then took control and created numerous chances, but for a long time struggled to get past goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi, who was in top form.

It wasn’t until the 75th minute that the deadlock was broken. After a precise cross from Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane rose highest and headed home the well-deserved 1-1 equalizer.
Just a few minutes later, the Bayern striker struck again. In the 84th minute, Kane skillfully controlled the ball in the penalty area and converted it with a spectacular shot on the turn for the 2-1 winning goal.
Clash with Mexico in the Round of 16
With his two-goal performance, Kane not only led England into the Round of 16 but also reaffirmed his strong form at the World Cup.
