With Vincent Kompany, a successor to Thomas Tuchel is finally coming to FC Bayern Munich. Up to this point, the Munich club has approached several candidates. Xabi Alonso has been Claudio Pizarro’s absolute favourite.
For months, FC Bayern has been in talks with several coaches. The top candidate was Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, who has decided to stay with the Werkself. Ex-Bayern striker Claudio Piozarro would have preferred the Spaniard to Kompany on the Bayern touchline: „I wanted Xabi to come to FC Bayern. That was my first thought, I had hope,“ the Peruvian told kicker.
Nevertheless, he believes that Alonso’s decision not to join Bayern was the right one: „But in the end, he decided to stay in Leverkusen. That’s a good thing too.“
Like every fan, the ex-Bayern star is also convinced by Alonso’s work. He also praised the new German champions‘ football this season: „It was fair, Leverkusen had a great year. The coach did an incredible job, they didn’t lose a game in the Bundesliga. They were the real winners,“ explained Pizarro.
The 45-year-old played with Alonso during his time at FC Bayern. He has fond memories of the player Alonso: „He knew a lot about football, played at Madird, at Liverpool and with us at Bayern.“,
But Pizarro also appreciates Alonso as a coach: „You can see from the year he played with Leverkusen that he is a very good coach.“
Pizarro’s advice: „More experience“
Pizarro said of Bayern’s disappointing season: „It was a difficult year, with many changes at the club,“ summarised the club representative.
Now Vincent Kompany is set to get Munich back on track. The former goalscorer is not yet entirely convinced by the new Belgian coach’s decision. For him, a coach with more experience would have done Munich good: „Bayern have always done well when they’ve had a coach with experience. Someone who tries to let the players play what they do best on the pitch and gives them a lot of confidence,“ said Pizarro.
