With the German record champions still unsuccessful in their search for a coach, it is now looking increasingly likely that Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel will stay on. Should the 50-year-old remain at Säbener Straße beyond the summer despite the separation agreed in February, Tuchel already has a new favourite player in mind.
As reported in the BILD podcast „Bayern Insider“, Bruno Fernandes is a player that Bayern coach Tuchel would like to have in his ranks. In terms of his type of player, the Portuguese would fit in with the ideas of the 50-year-old and his coaching staff. Whether the Munich club intensify their interest in the 29-year-old in the future will probably depend on the coach’s future.
The German record champions have already been rumoured to be interested in Fernandes in recent days. The attacking star is said to be unhappy with his current situation at Manchester United. They are currently in eighth place in the Premier League and are in danger of missing out on European competition next season. In his time with the Red Devils, the Portuguese has only won the League Cup once. The English club have also reportedly not ruled out selling the player.
Tuchel demands longer contract period
However, according to the report, a transfer could only be finalised if Tuchel were to stay in the Bavarian capital beyond the summer. After Munich’s search for a successor has so far only resulted in rejections, Bayern bosses now appear to be keen to continue working with Tuchel. This means that the coach is currently practically the favoured option for his own successor.
The decisive factor here is the contract offer that is ultimately presented to Tuchel. The Bayern coach is likely to demand a contract until at least 2026 in order to remain at the German record champions. So far, his contract only runs until the summer of 2025.
