There is still a big question mark over Joshua Kimmich’s sporting future at FC Bayern. The 29-year-old’s contract expires in just under 12 months. There have been no concrete talks between the club and player so far. As has now become known, Kimmich is waiting for a signal from the Bayern bosses.

Even though those responsible in Munich have repeatedly emphasised in recent weeks that they would like to extend Joshua Kimmich’s expiring contract, Max Eberl and co. have not yet made any advances towards the midfielder. According to Sky, he is „still waiting for a signal from the club regarding his future“.

According to the pay-TV channel, however, the Kimmich poker could soon pick up speed. The reason: Kimmich and the Bayern bosses around Eberl are due to hold their first talks about his future in May.

No decision before Euro 2024

According to Sky reporter Kerry Hau, however, it is unlikely that there will be a final decision in the Kimmich case before the European Championship.

The 29-year-old feels comfortable in Munich, but would like to know for sure whether and how Bayern plan to work with him in the future. It’s not just about the question of who will be the new head coach, other factors also play a role for the defensive all-rounder. Kimmich wants to know the club’s future philosophy and plans.

One thing is clear: if Kimmich does not receive a clear signal from the Bayern bosses, he is quite prepared to leave the club prematurely and head abroad. With Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona, there are already two concrete interested parties. Manchester City are also rumoured to be interested in the German international. Pep Guardiola would therefore make an attempt in the summer should Kimmich actually end up on the transfer market.
