Michael Olise’s red card in the 3-3 draw against Viking Stavanger has sparked plenty of discussion at FC Bayern. The French attacking star had let himself get carried away with an unnecessary move during the Champions League match, putting his team in a difficult situation. Now, sporting director Max Eberl has commented on the consequences.
At the press conference ahead of the top Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig, the 53-year-old made it clear that the Munich club has since addressed the incident internally.
“We’ve discussed it and resolved it internally, so the matter is closed for us,” Eberl explained.
With that, Bayern’s leadership has—at least publicly—put an end to the discussions surrounding their star forward.
Eberl leaves the possibility of a fine open
It is not clear from Eberl’s statement whether Olise received an additional fine for his behavior.
The sporting director merely confirmed that club officials had addressed the incident and that the matter has been resolved internally.
The 24-year-old had initially been shown a yellow card during the Champions League match in Stavanger for pulling an opponent’s jersey. Shortly afterward, he threw the ball at Viking captain Zlatko Tripic’s face.
Referee Georgi Kabakov then showed the Frenchman a yellow-red card.
What made it particularly bitter: Bayern had just turned a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 lead at that point. After the red card, however, Vincent Kompany’s team came under pressure again and conceded the equalizer in the closing minutes.
The incident subsequently drew significant criticism.
Olise to miss Bayern’s match against Arsenal

The on-field consequences of the red card remain, despite the team’s internal review. Olise will be suspended and will miss Bayern’s upcoming Champions League match against Arsenal.
For Kompany, this is a major setback. The French international is one of Bayern’s most important players and, with his creativity and goal-scoring threat, is a central part of the team’s offense.
His absence could prove particularly costly against an opponent like Arsenal.
For now, however, the focus is on Saturday night’s top Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig. After two consecutive draws, Bayern are determined to get back on track.
The discussion surrounding Olise’s behavior is not expected to play a further role, at least within the club. With Eberl’s clear statement, the Munich club has made it clear that they consider the matter closed internally.
